How To Find Your 'Flow State' In Life - The Power of A-B Testing

One of the best states you can reach in your life, is that of a 'flow state'.

A flow state is a in state in which everything in your life seems to click. Everything seems to work seamlessly together, and you achieve a state of balance across the board of all the things that are important to you, in a manner that is right for you.

It is in this state that things seem to go their best.

When challenges arise - you have the power and courage to overcome them, and face them head on.

When things go right - you are grateful, and excited for the next opportunity.

It's a great spot to be in.

How does one get to this state? How does one balance the complexity and different areas of ones life, to reach this perfect state of flow?

In today's blog, I'm going to teach you how to find your flow state.

Without further ado - let's get to it.

Step 1 - Find Yourself, and Know Yourself:

The very first step towards finding what your flow state is, is to know yourself all across the board in your life.

Know what you want from yourself in your health - what do you want to look like? What's your ideal body? How do you feel? What's your ideal mental and emotional state?

Know what you want from yourself in your wealth - what work are you most passionate about? What do you enjoy learning about, and teaching others about? What's your ideal future income?

Know what you want from yourself in your relationships - how are you with your family? With your friends? With your significant other?

Finally, know what you want from yourself in your happiness - what do you do for fun? What are your passions? What's your ideal lifestyle?

Often-times, these answers only truly become revealed to us by exposure - by seeing it in others, seeing it in role-models, or people you look up too, from different areas of life.

Personally, I draw my inspiration from many different areas - business magnates, professional athletes, teacher's of mine, family members, work colleagues, friend's parents. I draw inspiration from a wide array of areas, and it allows me to know myself. Know what I want, and what I don't want.

It is only when you know yourself, that you can begin the process of reaching your flow-state in life.

When you know yourself and what you want from yourself - the answer will then become clear on two things (1) what you should be doing with your time, and (2) what you shouldn't be doing with your time.

When you know what you want to 'be' - then identify what you must 'do', to become that.

This is step 1.

Step 2 - Prioritization:

Once you know what you want to be, and what you must do - then organize your life and habits in a way that enables you to begin taking action towards these four areas, and allows you to do the things you know you need to do.

At first, you may be out of balance. You may feel you're being pulled in many different directions at once.

This is where you must prioritize.

If you want X from your health, Y from your Wealth, and Z from your relationships - how do you prioritize those?

If on a given day, only 1 of those can be met - which of those is most important to you right now? That's your top priority.

And then after that?... That's your second priority.

It's crucial that you understand how your goals stack up together, and which order they fall in, in terms of importance to you.

This will be unique for everyone, at whichever stage you are in your life - but it is important that you know how things rank.

If everything is important, then nothing is important.

You must prioritize.

Once you do this, it becomes easier to allocate your time.

If Health is a second priority to your Wealth - then perhaps you only need to spend 2 hours per day dedicated towards it, rather than 4 hours per day.

It is this prioritization process, that allows you to begin to shape up your life and how you spend your time in a way that gets you to your best self, organically.

Step 3 - Finding The Right Balance (A-B Testing):

This is the experimental period.

In order to find the right balance that will get you to your flow state - you must A-B Test in your life.

What is A-B testing?

A-B Testing is a highly effective way of experimenting.

It's trying things one way for a duration of time, tracking your results (version A).

Then, trying things another way for a duration of time, and tracking your results (version B).

When you compare the two results, of doing things one way versus another way - it becomes very clear which way works better.

This can and should be applied to all areas of your life.

For example - in order to find my sweet spot in health, I A-B tested everything from the hours of sleep I need to get each night, to the number of days I workout per week, to the number of calories I need to eat to gain weight.

By doing this - it became very clear to me, what worked and what didn't work for me. What I should do more of and what I should do less of.

I learned very quickly that I need 8 hours of sleep per night. I'm at my best when I train 5-6x per week. If I want to achieve my ideal body state of 200 lbs, I should be eating about 3800 calories per day and 200 grams of protein per day.

I also learned very quickly that all I need is 1 day of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu per week. In order to balance this with the large goals I've set for myself in my career, I found 1 day per week to be more than enough.

You can do this for everything - and you should do it for everything.

In your wealth - what are your ideal working hours? Where does the majority of your money come from? What activities lead to your best results? What builds your brand the most? Where do you meet the most valuable members of your network?

In your relationships - who do you enjoy spending the most time with? What do you to get in the best mood? What do you enjoy doing, and who do you enjoy doing it with?

A-B Test everything!

When you keep doing this, integrating feedback, and making adjustments - you'll naturally find yourself winding up in your flow-state after a matter of time.

It may take weeks, it may take months - depending on where you are.

But it is damn worth it!

In Closing:

A flow state is the best possible state you can be in, in your life. It trumps everything else.

You'll be at your happiest, you'll be getting the best results, and you'll be able to show up as your best self each day, organically.

So in closing - begin by finding yourself, and knowing yourself, what you want from yourself and what you must do to get there. Then prioritize what's important to you, know the order in which things must be met for you. Then finally - A-B test everything, till you find the balance that is right for you.

Your flow state is out there waiting for you.
